My Journey
Dr. Sofiane El Djouzi, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, is a well-rounded and versatile surgeon. He is passionate about his work and cares deeply about his patients. He has trained extensively in the fields of abdominal and gastrointestinal surgery.
His journey started in London Hospitals (United Kingdom), where he began his very first steps as a junior resident in general surgery. He trained for over five years, then successfully passed all his examinations and graduated as a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
He then moved to the United States, precisely to Chicago, in search of more in-depth training in advanced surgery. The US odyssey carried him from the University of Illinois of Chicago to graduate from his second general surgery residency five years later at the JHK – University of Cincinnati.
He then continued seeking apprenticeship and training to attend two concurrent subspecialty fellowships at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. While completing his fellowships, he prepared and successfully passed all of the American Board of Surgery examinations to become a board-certified surgeon.
While being a bariatric and gastrointestinal surgeon at the Loyola University Medical Center, he enrolled for a one-year master’s in advanced surgical endoscopy at the University of Strasbourg in France.
Finally, he concluded his educational odyssey by attending a healthcare MBA at the prestigious Heller School of Business in Boston from which he graduated this past May. The MBA enriched him with insight into teamwork and leadership with a broader view of the entire healthcare field.
Family
In addition to working with patients, Dr. El Djouzi loves to pass along his gifts and knowledge. He has held professorships at a couple of teaching hospitals, and he continues to mentor medical students and residents alongside his private practice. Hi personal life revolves around his wife and three daughters. He enjoys traveling, especially with his family, as well as swimming, running, and reading. He is fluent in French and Arabic and can converse competently in Spanish and Italian.
